What cookies are
Cookies are tiny text files that websites store on your device to remember things about your visit, like whether you're logged in or what's in your cart. They've been around for 30 years. They're not dangerous on their own, but they can be misused to follow people around the web.
Gnome Labz doesn't set any cookies of its own. We do keep a few small notes in your browser's storage, which works a lot like cookies with one big difference: your browser doesn't send it to us on every page. Session storage is wiped when you close the tab. Local storage stays until you clear your browser's site data.
02
Cookies we use
Our own cookies: none.
What the site stores in your browser:
gnome-labz-cart: remembers what's in your cart as you move between pages. Session storage, cleared when you close the tab.gnome-labz-cookie-consent: remembers that you closed the cookie notice, so it doesn't keep popping up. Local storage, kept until you clear your browser's site data.gl_attr: remembers, for this browser tab only, the first page you landed on, the website that sent you here (just its name, like google.com), and any tag on the link you followed (like?ref=fbon a link we shared, or Google's?gclid=ad click code). It only reaches us if you send our contact form or free check-up form, so we can see which pages and links bring in inquiries. Session storage, cleared when you close the tab.
Visit counting: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. Cloudflare adds a small script to every page and counts page views on every visit: which page, the website that linked you, your browser and device type, and your country. Cloudflare says it does this without cookies, without local storage and without fingerprinting, and we only ever see totals, never a profile of you. Because it doesn't use cookies, there is nothing for you to switch on or off.
What we don't use: ad-network cookies, retargeting pixels, cross-site trackers, the Facebook Pixel or Google's ad tags. None of it.
03
Third-party cookies
We don't set any, but two outside services can:
- Stripe: if you go to checkout, Stripe's payment form sets its own cookies to process the payment and prevent fraud. Stripe only loads on the checkout page, and those cookies are covered by Stripe's privacy policy.
- Cloudflare: the company that hosts and protects the site. If Cloudflare ever has to check that you're a real person (a "verifying you are human" screen), it can set a short-lived security cookie. It's only for security.
04
Managing your preferences
On your first visit, once you start scrolling, a small notice at the bottom of the screen says we don't use tracking or ad cookies. There are no optional cookies to turn on or off, so it has one button, Got it, which saves that you've seen it so it stops showing.
To see the notice again, clear your browser's site data for gnomelabz.com.
05
Browser settings
Most browsers let you block all cookies, block third-party cookies, or clear site data when you close them. Each browser does it a little differently:
- Chrome:
Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies - Firefox:
Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies - Safari:
Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
If you block all site data, the cart may not remember what you added and the cookie notice will come back on every page. You can still read everything and contact us.
06
Do Not Track
Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. Honest answer: nothing on our site reads it. We don't track you across other websites, so there's nothing for it to switch off. Cloudflare's cookie-free visit counter still counts your page views either way.
07
Changes to this policy
We update the Last revised date at the top whenever we change this policy. If we ever add an optional cookie or a new outside service that stores things in your browser, we'll update this page and ask you first, with a real choice, before using it.
